I began Simply - Veg in 2010 from a love of growing my own vegetables, and a passion for a simple business. I've always found limp looking vegetables in the supermarket sad and uninspiring, and greengrocers always seemed bad value for money. I fell in love with the idea of buying fresh market produce, and delivering veg boxes to customers the very same day. I began my first week with 5 customers in Vines Cross, Horam and Heathfield, and I have never looked back. Most of my business comes from word of mouth, as I offer a flexible reliable service to a maintained customer base in East Sussex and Kent.
Ashurst Organics veg box scheme started in 1994 as a Community Supported venture organised by Common Cause Co-operative - a social enterprise based in Lewes, East Sussex.
In 1997, Adrian Halstead, always a keen allotment gardener, took a leap of faith and bought the nursery in rural Barcombe, four miles west of Lewes and twelve miles north of Brighton. He began the conversion to organic status under the auspices of the Soil Association with the idea of starting a local vegetable box scheme.
We believe that food is best when it is local, fresh and seasonal and that's why we connect the urban city of Brighton & Hove with the surrounding rural areas and use local suppliers for all our support services as well as our produce.
We produce local food. Growing with the older hand tool methods that mean we don’t need huge tractors or 100’s of acres of land means we can get the food on to your plate fresher, faster and whilst improving the soil we grow in, and keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible.
