Our farm shop has been the bedrock of the family business for over 20 years, although in recent years we have scaled back the scope to allow us to expand our food offerings in the tea rooms and service as many customers as possible.

Avalon Vineyard is situated on the site of a historic vineyard near Glastonbury and was started from scratch by myself, Hugh Tripp, and my wife, Hilary. Starting on just half an acre in 1981, our first wines won awards in national competitions. Encouraged, we bought more land to expand plantings and build our own winery. From the start we were committed to organic principles. This was facilitated by our choice of resistant ‘hybrid’ varieties of vine that do not need to be sprayed with fungicide (which is something that happens even in many organic vineyards).

Started from humble beginnings in 2003, Gloagburn is now a 130 cover coffee shop serving the very best in homemade soups sandwiches and home baking. In the farm shop, we source the finest Scottish foodstuffs which sit next to our very popular and extensive range of Gloagburn homemade products.

Our farm is called Glebe Farm. We farm 90 acres of organic mixed livestock and arable land. Also, in summer our animals graze on 40 acres of lush pasture on the Somerset Levels. It has been farmed by the Walrond family for over 200 years with three generations involved on the farm today. We converted the farm to organic production in 1999 and have been farming organically ever since. We are licensed growers and processors with the Soil Association.
