Balnafettach Farm
A family-run farm situated just outside Cromdale within the Cairngorms National Park, the Cassells farm one of Scotlands oldest native breeds, pure Highland Cattle, and a small flock of sheep - a mixture of pure Jacobs and Texel X. They also have free-roaming chickens, and occasionally rear rare breed pigs from weaners, which they turn into bacon themselves using traditional methods. Working recently with an on-farm butcher, they offer seasonal wild game, shot on the farm and locally, as well as mutton. We have a herd of suckler cows with their calves, a flock Charolais sheep and a few pigs. Silage and hay are grown to feed the cattle and sheep in winter, when they can’t graze in the fields, and we grow vegetables and flowers, to sell at the local farmers markets, along with seasonal goods like jams, jellies, syrups and Christmas trees!
